Oil portrait on canvas of Gavin Black Motherwell, Provost of Airdrie Burgh (1930-1934). A solicitor by profession, Motherwell was elected to Airdrie Town Council in 1913. After serving in the First World War, when he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Motherwell was first appointed Police Judge and Magistrate, then Provost like his father. He became Burgh Prosecutor in 1933
