The Dominie by George Harvey (1806-1876), mid 1800s
Scottish-born artist Sir George Frederick Harvey is known for his pictures depicting historical episodes in religious history and close observation of character. This painting may be circle of Harvey rather than by the artist himself. Dominie is a Scots language and Scottish English term for a Scottish schoolmaster, usually of the Church of Scotland.
