1930 - 1940 · Hamilton, Jean · Motherwell, Scotland · Jean was one of the first policewomen in Motherwell. In this period female police weren't issued with uniforms. Later, Jean wore a uniform but it was far too big for her as only 3 sizes were available at that time. Jean was a policewomen during the war but later gave up her post. She never married and used to sleep with the baton by her bedside.
