Steelworker's Long Service Medal

It was common for long-standing workers to be presented with certificates to mark milestones in their working lives. On special occasions such as royal jubilees and coronations some firms had medals made to present to workers.

This medal was presented to Robert Reid by his employer, David Colville and Sons on the occasion of the 1921 Jubilee to mark the fact that he had worked at Dalzell Steel Works for 40 years.

Robert Reid began work at Dalzell in 1881, a momentous year as it was then that the works moved over to steel production.
