Built for the 1908 London Olympics, the White City Stadium was built in only 10 months by the construction firm George Wimpey after Greece was unable to host the games. The structural steel for the stadium and adjacent bulidings of hte 1908 Franco-British Exhibition was built by the Motherwell structural engineers Alexander Findlay and Co using steel made at the Glengarnock Steel Works in Ayrshire.
