CultureNL Museums is home to Scotland’s foremost cinema collection. With over 1,500 objects, ranging from cinema, studio and educational equipment to cinema furnishings, ephemera and home cine equipment.

The collection represents important steps in the development of film technology and the cinema industry, from early hand-cranked silent projectors and equipment removed from Scottish picture houses to professional cameras, splicers, editors, and much, much more.

Cinema’s importance is reflected in its status as of the as one of the most popular forms of entertainment. It was a place for courting couples to meet up, the go to place for kids on a Saturday morning and for workers, the chance to escape the world of work for an hour of Hollywood glamour. The star item in this stunning collection is our mighty Compton Cinema Organ, which in action is a sight to behold and absolute delight to hear!
