Fashion & Textiles
The collection ranges from clothes worn every day to clothes made for special events and occasions. Together they reflect changing tastes and fashions from the 1700s onwards, from bloomers, nightgowns, suits and day dresses to wedding dresses, frock coats and christening gowns. Workwear also features, along with a wide range of fashion accessories, such as hats, bags, scarves and shoes.
Key items include a stunning Victorian wedding dress made by Hotson’s in Airdrie, a collection of unique outfits worn by North Lanarkshire’s most famous singing duo, Fran and Anna; and a pair of ladies shoes made in Thornbury in 1725.
The textile collections also includes a significant range of beautiful banners, aprons and sashes from institutions and societies in towns across North Lanarkshire.
